GTA 6 Affordability Index: Hours of Work to Buy It (2026)

In Brazil, GTA 6 costs 61 hours of minimum-wage work. In the US it costs 11, and in Australia 4.9. That is the Standard Edition's store price in each country divided by the hourly minimum wage, for 22 countries.
A Brazilian minimum-wage worker needs about 6 times as many hours as an American one, even before the exchange rate makes Brazil's R$449.90 price 13% dearer than the US $79.99. Only Argentina is higher, at 62 hours. Prices were read from the PlayStation Store and Xbox Store on October 6, 2026; wages come from each government's own page.

What the numbers show
The price gap between countries is small; the wage gap is not. Most stores charge the equivalent of $72.01 to $92.92, yet the hours run from 4.9 to 62. In Western Europe, Canada, Australia and New Zealand the game is under 7 hours of minimum-wage work. Spain (9.7 h), Poland, Portugal and Greece sit between 9 and 13 hours.
Latin America and South Africa are where it bites. Argentina (62 hours, about 7.8 eight-hour days) and Brazil (61) top the list. South Africa follows at 50 hours for its R1,499 price, then Peru, Mexico, Colombia and Chile, all between 24 and 37 hours. Chile, Colombia, Peru and Argentina pay the US dollar price, so the peso rate decides the bill.
At the median wage the spread narrows: United States 3.3 hours, Canada 3.6 hours, New Zealand 3.9 hours, United Kingdom 3.6 hours, Australia 3.0 hours. We show a median only where the national statistics office publishes an hourly one; we did not find one for the other countries, so their cells say "no figure".
Canada's 6.1 hours uses the federal rate, which covers federally regulated jobs. At Alberta's $15.00 general rate it is about 7.3 hours. In the US, many states pay above the $7.25 federal floor.
What we think the index shows
Our take: the argument over GTA 6's price is mostly an argument about wages, and the index makes that visible. Sticker prices differ far less between countries than wages do, so the work it takes differs a lot. Even in the US, the answer depends on whose wage you count. Adjusted for inflation, GTA 6 is cheaper than GTA 5 was (our price page has the math). But the federal minimum wage has been $7.25 an hour since July 2009, so for someone earning exactly that, GTA 6 costs 11 hours of work where GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 cost a little over 8. Both statements are true at once, which is why the two sides of the price debate keep talking past each other. Our practical advice for anyone near the top of this ranking: buy the Standard Edition, skip pre-ordering unless you want the preload, since the bonus pack covers purchases through launch day, and treat the Ultimate Edition as a later purchase, which on Xbox costs nothing extra.

Our calculation: the price divided by the $7.25 federal minimum, which applied on all three launch days (US Department of Labor). Inflation figures use the US consumer price index from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, as on our price page.
The federal floor is the extreme case: many states pay more, and the median US hourly wage in our table above is far higher. But it shows why "cheaper than ever, adjusted for inflation" and "more expensive than ever" can both be fair descriptions of the same $79.99.

The price behind the index
Take-Two set the US price at $79.99 for the Standard Edition and $99.99 for the Ultimate Edition, as Reuters reported on June 24, 2026, the day before pre-orders opened. Brazilian outlets such as Tecnoblog reported R$449.90 for the Standard Edition the next day, the price the Brazilian PlayStation Store still lists. In early October, Warhorse Studios co-founder Martin Klima said he hopes GTA 6 makes $80 the norm for big games, as VGC and GameSpot reported. Every regional price, edition by edition, is on the GTA 6 price page.
Method: how we got each number
- We take the Standard Edition's list price on each country's own PlayStation Store and Xbox Store, read on October 6, 2026. Where the two stores differ (Mexico), we use the lower. For countries our price page does not list, we read the PlayStation Store only. Retail discounts and gift-card deals are left out, because they change week to week.
- The hourly minimum wage is the rate in force on October 6, 2026, from each government's labour ministry, statute or gazette. If the government sets an hourly rate, we use it as is. Mexico sets a daily rate for an 8-hour shift, so we divide by 8. Where only a monthly minimum exists, we take a year's statutory pay (14 payments in Spain, Portugal and Greece, 12 elsewhere) and divide by 40 hours x 52 weeks. Countries whose legal week is longer than 40 hours would show slightly more hours of work than we do.
- Hours of work are the local price divided by the hourly wage. No conversion is needed for this step, so exchange rates cannot move the ranking, except in Argentina, Chile, Colombia and Peru, where the store lists US dollars.
- The US dollar column uses European Central Bank reference rates for October 6, 2026; for the peso countries the ECB does not cover, each central bank's own rate for the same day (Peru's latest, October 5).
- Countries with no national minimum wage, or none we could pin to one figure, are listed but not ranked: Finland, India, Italy. The Philippines has no local store listing, so it has no price.
Why our numbers can differ from viral charts
Charts that convert the US $79.99 into other currencies miss what stores really charge. Brazil's store price is not $79.99 in reais; it is R$449.90, which is $90.55 at the ECB rate. We use the price on each country's own store, the minimum wage in force this month from the government's page, and we show the date of every number so anyone can check or update it. Every source is linked at the bottom of this page and in the CSV.
What we update on launch day
On November 19, 2026 we re-read every store listing (launch-day prices and any discounts), check whether Argentina's and Peru's minimum wages changed again (both have scheduled steps), refresh the exchange rates, and add any country whose store we can read. Questions people ask
How many hours of work does GTA 6 cost?
It depends on the country. At the minimum wage it takes 61 hours in Brazil, 33 in Mexico, 11 in the US, 5.5 in the UK and 4.9 in Australia, the lowest of the 22 countries we rank.
Where is GTA 6 the most expensive?
Measured in work, Argentina (62 hours at the minimum wage) and Brazil (61 hours). Measured in dollars, Brazil's R$449.90 store price is $90.55 at the October 6, 2026 ECB rate, 13% more than the US price.
Is GTA 6 more expensive in Brazil than in the US?
Yes, in both senses. R$449.90 is $90.55 at the ECB rate, against $79.99 in the US, and it takes 61 hours at Brazil's minimum wage of R$7.37 an hour, against 11 at the US federal minimum.
Why is the US so low when its minimum wage is $7.25?
Because the game costs $79.99 there, so 11 hours covers it. At the US median wage of $24.51 an hour it is 3.3 hours. Many states set a higher minimum than the federal one, which shortens it further.
