GTA 6 Online: Everything We Know So Far

There is no GTA 6 Online yet. GTA 6 launches on November 19, 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S as a single-player game, Rockstar has not announced any online mode, and Take-Two says it expects to keep supporting the GTA Online that runs on GTA 5.

What will GTA 6 Online be called?

Nobody knows yet. Fans say "GTA 6 Online" or "GTA Online 2", but Rockstar has not named a new online game, and it has not said whether online play for GTA 6 would come inside GTA 6, as a separate game, or as an update to the current GTA Online. Rockstar has sold GTA Online on its own since 2022, so a separate release is possible, but that is history, not an announcement. We use "GTA 6 Online" as a working name and will switch to Rockstar's name when it gives one.

• Will GTA 6 have multiplayer? Rated rumor: the only date comes from Twitch's CEO.

What to expect next

Our take: we expect Rockstar to announce online play for GTA 6 after launch, as its own event, and we would not plan a purchase around Dan Clancy's "next year". Rockstar's last two big games added online within weeks (GTA Online two weeks after GTA 5, Red Dead Online's beta about a month after Red Dead Redemption 2), yet GTA 6 arrives with nothing announced, which points to a longer gap and a bigger launch of its own. Take-Two's CEO also told investors in August that the company is not talking about what comes after the launch yet. Buy GTA 6 for its story. If multiplayer is the reason you want it, you lose nothing by waiting for Rockstar's own announcement, and GTA Online on GTA 5 keeps getting updates in the meantime.
