GTA 6 for Free: Real Ways to Get It and the Scams to Avoid

No, GTA 6 is not free: the Standard Edition costs $79.99 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, the only consoles it is coming to on November 19, 2026. You can still get it without paying full price, by winning it in a real giveaway or getting it as a gift, but every "free GTA 6 download" you see today is a scam.

The real ways to get GTA 6 for less

• Win it. Giveaways run by sites, retailers and creators are the only free route. A real one is free to enter and never asks for a password, a payment or a download. It also has rules that say who runs it, what the prize is and how the winner is drawn.
• Get it as a gift. A PlayStation Store or Xbox gift card works for the digital edition, the same as paying yourself.
• Wait for a deal. Stores sometimes cut prices after launch. We track the confirmed prices on our GTA 6 price page and say when a real discount shows up.

Nobody has announced GTA 6 for PlayStation Plus or Game Pass, so a subscription will not get it to you for now.

There is no free GTA 6 download

Rockstar lists GTA 6 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S only and has not announced a PC version, so there is no PC copy to download, free or paid. Malwarebytes, which tracks these scams, also points out that Rockstar has not announced or released a demo. The Guardian found no real beta test either: the "beta invitations" going around are fake.

The scams going around

• Fake demo sites. In August 2026, Malwarebytes found lookalike Rockstar sites with "Play Now" buttons that download a 1.1 MB file called gta6_installer.exe. It is an information stealer that takes saved passwords and logged-in browser sessions, not a game.
• Fake "leaked" copies. Huntress found GTA 6 disk images spread through search results, gaming forums and torrent sites. One installed several remote-access trojans, a password stealer and ransomware that destroys files, then showed a "license not found" error so the victim would think the game simply failed.
• Fake beta invitations and "beta keys". The Guardian reported emails and AI-made sites inviting players to test GTA 6 early, which ask for personal details or a game login, or push a download that gives criminals access to the computer.
• Fake beta ads. Back in 2024, Bitdefender found Facebook ads offering a free GTA VI beta for PC; the download was malware.

How to spot a fake

• It offers GTA 6 for PC or Android, or before November 19, 2026.
• It asks for a password, a payment, card details or a "verification" step to unlock a prize.
• The download is tiny (a real console game is many gigabytes) or comes from a file-sharing link.
• The address is close to Rockstar's but not rockstargames.com, playstation.com or xbox.com.

If you already clicked

Scan the computer with a trusted security tool. From another device, change your email password first, then your bank, store and gaming passwords. Use "sign out of all devices" on each account, because stolen browser sessions can still work after a password change, and turn on two-factor sign-in. If you gave card or bank details, call your bank.
