GTA 6 Storage Space: Will It Fit on Your Console?

How much storage space does GTA 6 need? Rockstar has not announced it, and the stores listed no install size when we checked on October 6, 2026. Polygon expects about 200 GB, so this checker measures your free space against that estimate and our 250 GB margin for preload day.

How big is GTA 6? Not announced
Rockstar's site, the Rockstar Store, the PlayStation Store and the Xbox Store listed no install size when we checked on October 6, 2026. Figures on social media, such as 150 GB or 228 GB, are guesses, not Rockstar numbers. Polygon's estimate is the most careful one around: several PS5 games already pass 150 GB, Gran Turismo 7 takes 197 GB, and Polygon would not be surprised to see GTA 6 approach or clear 200 GB.
The box is a clue too. Rockstar ships boxed copies as a download code, with no disc; Polygon notes PS5 discs hold up to 100 GB and Xbox Series X discs 50 GB. More in our preload and file size guide.

Why we say clear {safe} GB
Big installs can need room to work in. Rockstar's support page for Red Dead Redemption 2 asked PS4 players for 99 GB for the game plus 50 GB of space during the install, freed once it finished. Add a likely day-one patch to the 200 GB estimate and 250 GB is a sensible target. If Rockstar publishes a real size, follow that instead.

How big is GTA 6?
Rockstar has not announced an install size, and neither the PlayStation Store nor the Xbox Store listed one when we checked on October 6, 2026. Polygon expects GTA 6 to approach or clear 200 GB, an estimate based on other large PS5 games.
Will GTA 6 fit on the Xbox Series S?
The Series S has about 364 GB of usable space, so a 200 GB install would take about 55% of it. It fits on an empty console; on a full one, plan to delete or move games before the preload.
How much space do I need for the GTA 6 preload?
Our advice is to clear 250 GB. That covers the 200 GB estimate plus a day-one patch and the extra working space big installs can need: Red Dead Redemption 2 asked for 50 GB on top of its 99 GB while it installed.
When can I preload GTA 6?
From local midnight on November 12, for digital pre-orders and boxed codes redeemed early. The game unlocks on November 19.
Does GTA 6 come on a disc?
No. The boxed version holds a download code, so every copy is a download and needs the full space on your console.
