Which GTA 6 edition should you buy? For most players, the Standard Edition at $79.99: the Ultimate Edition Upgrade is sold separately at any time, so you lose nothing by starting with Standard. Pick Ultimate at $99.99 only if you already know you want its extra cars, shops and two side activities.

Answer three questions below and the picker gives you one edition, with the PlayStation and Xbox price in your store country. Prices are the stores' own, checked October 6, 2026.

Our take

Our take: start with the Standard Edition unless the list above already sold you. The upgrade has no deadline, and what it adds sits on top of the same game: cars, gear, five shops and two activities.

If you want a box for the shelf or a gift, the choice is made for you, since only the Standard Edition comes boxed. If money is tight, nothing in the bonus or the preload depends on the edition, so Standard costs you no launch-day extras.

Next steps: where to pre-order, check you have the space for it, and what the $399.99 collector's box is (no game inside). Or find out which GTA 6 character you are.

Questions people ask

Which GTA 6 edition should I buy?

The Standard Edition, unless you already know you want every Ultimate extra. The Ultimate Edition Upgrade is sold separately at any time, so you can add it once you have played a while. Want a box? Then it is the Standard Edition: there is no boxed Ultimate.

How much more is the GTA 6 Ultimate Edition?

In the US, $99.99 against $79.99 for the Standard Edition, so $20 more. The Xbox Store sells the Ultimate Edition Upgrade on its own for $20. Other countries are on our price page.

Is there a physical GTA 6 Ultimate Edition?

No. The Ultimate Edition is digital only. The boxed Standard Edition holds a download code, not a disc, and goes on sale on November 12.

Do both editions get the pre-order bonus?

Yes. Either edition bought before November 20 comes with the Vintage Vice City Pack. Digital pre-orders also get one month of GTA+.

Can I upgrade from Standard to Ultimate later?

Yes. Rockstar sells the Ultimate Edition Upgrade separately on the PlayStation Store and the Microsoft Store at any time, and boxed copies can add it once their code is redeemed.
