GTA 6: Will It Have Cheats and Cheat Codes? What We Know (2026)

Rockstar has not confirmed whether GTA 6 has cheat codes, and no real GTA 6 cheat exists in public yet. Every main Grand Theft Auto game so far has shipped with cheats, though, so most fans expect them, and the way Rockstar handled cheats in GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 gives a good idea of what they could look like.

This page is a tracker. It separates what is confirmed from what is guesswork, and from launch day on November 19 it will list only codes we have tested ourselves.

What is confirmed right now

Nothing about cheats. We checked Rockstar's Newswire posts about GTA 6 since June, Rockstar's support pages on editions and pre-orders, the PlayStation and Xbox store listings, and the coverage of the big previews (the August Extended Look and Game Informer's September cover story). None of them mention cheat codes, either way.

So any page that already shows a "full list of GTA 6 cheats" is inventing it.

Why most fans expect cheats

Cheats are part of the series' DNA, from the button combinations of GTA III, Vice City and San Andreas to GTA 5. GTA 5 is the most recent model, and it worked like this:

• Button sequences. Enter a pattern on the controller during play and a notification confirms the cheat.
• Phone numbers. Every cheat could also be dialed on the in-game phone. The numbers all start with 1-999 and spell out a word on the keypad, such as 1-999-TURTLE for health and armor.
• Some cheats were phone-only, such as Director Mode and a few vehicle spawns.
• No money cheat. GTA 5 never let you cheat cash, because the economy is tied to the story.
• Trophies switched off. Using a cheat disabled trophies and achievements for that play session, so the usual advice was to keep a separate save for messing around.

The Red Dead Redemption 2 approach

Rockstar's most recent game did it differently, and that matters because GTA 6 borrows several Red Dead systems.

• Cheats were entered as phrases in a Cheats menu inside Settings, not as button combos.
• The codes were hidden in the world. IGN found them written in a drawer, in a shipwreck and in newspapers, and some could only be used after buying a newspaper in town.
• Turning a cheat on disabled saving and trophies or achievements while it was active.
• There were 37 cheat slots, and the full list took years for players to complete.

What GTA 6 might do

This part is our reading, not confirmed information.

GTA 6 already takes ideas from Red Dead Redemption 2: a slow-motion aiming ability, eating to restore health, and an animal tracking system with rare and legendary species, all reported from the Extended Look and Game Informer's preview. A Red Dead-style cheats menu with codes hidden in the world would fit that pattern.

The phone also matters more than ever. Game Informer's preview describes phone apps for checking a car's security and value and for booking ride-share trips around Leonida. A dial-a-cheat system like GTA 5's would fit naturally on that phone.

Either way, if cheats exist, expect them to switch off trophies and achievements, because both of Rockstar's last two games did.

How to spot fake GTA 6 cheat lists

• Any list published before November 19 is made up. Nobody outside Rockstar has played the final game.
• "Working" or "tested" before launch is a lie. There is nothing to test yet.
• Money cheats are a warning sign. GTA 5 had none.
• Never download "mod menus" or "unlockers" for GTA 6. On console these are scams, and they can put your account at risk.

How we'll build the real list

From launch day, every code on this site will be:

1. Entered on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S by us.
2. Marked with its effect, how to enter it, and whether it blocks trophies or saving.
3. Labeled "confirmed" only after it works on both consoles.

Until then, we will mark anything shared by others as unconfirmed.
