An Ultimate Edition commission: track down abandoned classic and project cars, restore them for a collector and fixer called Wyman, and keep them. Rockstar has not said where Wyman is or how many cars there are.

The Classic Car Collection is one of two side jobs that come only with the Ultimate Edition. In Rockstar's words, you "track down a variety of abandoned classic and work-in-progress project cars and revitalize them to their former glory in this special commission from eccentric collector and local fixer, Wyman" (PlayStation Store). Rockstar's announcement adds that you keep the cars you restore, "including four vehicles that are only available in the Ultimate Edition" (IGN, TheSixthAxis).

What we know, and what we don't

Rockstar has said who gives the job and what you get, and nothing else: not where Wyman is, how many cars there are, what restoring one involves or whether it pays cash. In Rockstar's screenshot of the collection, Driven spots a classic GT racer, an AMC Javelin-style Deviant and a green sports car with Jaguar E-Type curves. Rockstar Support says Ultimate Edition bonuses open across Jason and Lucia's story, with new items behind each chapter, so expect Wyman to turn up partway in rather than on day one.

GTA's closest precedent is GTA Online's Exotic Exports, a list of ten cars to steal and deliver for a reward (PCGamesN). GTA 6's car systems give a commission like this more to work with: IGN reports that cars now sit in tiers, that older ones open with a slim jim while newer ones need a key cloner you get later in the story, and that the WAINK phone app tells you what a car is worth and what it costs to register.

Our take: this is the Ultimate Edition's most substantial extra for anyone who cares about cars, because it is the only one that grows your garage through play rather than handing you a vehicle on day one. Four exclusive cars plus however many classics Wyman sends you after is a real collection. But Rockstar hasn't said how big it is, and a commission of four or five cars would be thin for the price. If you're on the Standard Edition, wait for our count after launch before buying the upgrade for this.

What we'll check on launch day

  • Where Wyman is and when he first calls, and which chapter opens the job.
  • How many cars there are, where each one is, with map pins, and what restoring one takes.
  • Whether Standard Edition players can see the abandoned cars at all.
