The PTT Youngin$ Compound is the Ultimate Edition's heist-style side job: you find a way to raid the gang's Illegal Goods Store in Southside Vice City "and escape safely to score some special items and distinct contraband", in Rockstar's announcement (TheSixthAxis). The PlayStation Store listing calls the PTT Youngin$ one of Southside Vice City's "loudest and most socially active gangs". Standard Edition owners can only play it by buying the Ultimate Edition upgrade.

Is a story mission locked behind the Ultimate Edition?

Not as far as anything Rockstar has said. Its wording is a raid on a compound, not a story mission, and IGN read it the same way when the edition was announced: Standard players "seemingly won't get to access one of these missions, suggesting they may well be more like side activities". Rockstar Support says the edition's bonuses unlock across Jason and Lucia's story, with new items behind each chapter. The compound also fits the robbery system Rockstar described to TGG, where gang compounds are one of five tiers of free-roam robbery and one compound is the Ultimate Edition's (TweakTown).

Rockstar has done this before. Red Dead Redemption 2's Special Edition added a bank robbery mission and a gang hideout that Rockstar called side activities "not part of the main story" (Rockstar Newswire, Gamereactor). IGN also recalls GTA 4's two episodes staying on Xbox for a year.

Our take: this is the Ultimate Edition item we like least, because it locks away gameplay rather than a cosmetic, in a single-player game. The precedent says you lose no story by skipping it, and the reward, "special items and distinct contraband", isn't itemised. Don't buy the upgrade for this raid alone. If other gang compounds in Standard play the same way, you'll get the experience anyway; we'll say once we've played one.

What we'll check on launch day

  • When the compound opens, how the raid plays, and what it pays.
  • Whether Standard Edition players see the compound locked, or not at all.
  • The gang itself is on our gangs page.
