GTA 6 News Today (October 29, 2026): Edge Feature, Score Date
The short answer
Edge's GTA 6 feature is out: police who track your description, slower days, buses and trains. Rockstar also dates Justice's score for December 11.

Edge's 16-page GTA 6 cover story went up free on GamesRadar+ today, and it is the longest look yet at the game running: Rockstar North's Rob Nelson played the current build for about 90 minutes while Aaron Garbut and Phil Hooker explained the systems. Rockstar also announced that Justice's Grand Theft Auto VI: Original Score comes out on December 11, and new footage Rockstar supplied turned up in an episode of South Park. Nothing changed on dates or prices: GTA 6 still launches November 19, 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, with preloading from November 12.
Edge's visit: what Rockstar showed
Edge writer Simon Parkin visited Rockstar North in Edinburgh a few weeks before launch. Everything below is either Rockstar's people speaking on the record or what Edge saw on screen, and we keep the two apart.
The map is about twice the size of GTA 5's, and Rockstar told Edge its total landmass, Vice City and the surrounding areas included, is nearly as large as the playable maps of GTA 4, GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 combined. Garbut says the game has "an order of magnitude more interiors" than Rockstar's earlier games, and that after years of play he still finds places he had not seen. Rockstar built a Los Angeles team of writers, directors and producers for the pedestrians, which Bloomberg first reported on October 14; Edge adds that the studio made around 600,000 animations and gave each pedestrian personality traits that decide how they react to you.
Nelson says that when the team first ran GTA 6 with GTA 5's timings, "everything felt too fast." So the day-night cycle is much longer, with sunsets and nights that last, and the wide roads of GTA 5 have been narrowed to "a more believable size." Pedestrians now notice a gun in your hands, not only one pointed at them, though the game gives some leeway before that turns into a wanted level (Edge; Kotaku).
The police side builds on what IGN described in August. Icons at the top of the screen show what the police know: your description, whether you were alone or with your partner, your clothes, whether CCTV caught you and your weapon. Splitting up, changing clothes or dropping the gun removes those details one at a time. Edge also saw police lay a stinger strip and a K9 unit's dog pin Jason to the ground (Edge; Polygon). Newer cars can carry trackers, some drivers flee when you try to take their car and others fight back.
Other new details from the feature:
| GTA 5 | GTA 6, per Edge | |
|---|---|---|
| Day and night | A brisk cycle | Much longer, sunsets and nights linger |
| Roads | Wide, built for easy driving | Narrowed to a "more believable size" |
| Weather | Preset states, "either rainy or sunny" (Garbut) | Clouds move with wind, humidity, fog, time of day and season; storms can buffet aircraft and cause light damage |
| Pedestrians and guns | React only when you aim at them (Nelson) | React to a gun carried in your hands, less to one slung on your back |
| Getting your car | No delivery in story mode; GTA Online has one (IGN) | The Scooter Bros app: for a fee, someone drops your car off and rides away on a scooter |
| Cars | No fuel to manage | Every vehicle has a fuel gauge and an engine health readout |
| Wanted level | Stars | A "heat" report of what police know, shown as icons |
The game also has working bus and train systems. Phil Hooker, the third head of development, says he spends much of his time checking that buses turn up on time and has "memorised all of the routes."
On the story side, Edge describes the Criminal Profile as a scale from "Professional" to "Irredeemable," and Rockstar says your profile influences how Jason and Lucia's story unfolds. Their closeness is tracked on a four-point scale that grows with time spent together, such as walks on the beach, cycling or the gym, once they have bought a membership. You can switch between them whenever the story allows, including mid-chase, handing the getaway driving to the other character while you shoot. Some main missions wait until you raise cash for the next job, and the WAINK app lists the cars fences want.
Edge also names which studios led which parts: Rockstar Toronto led world population and research, and Rockstar San Diego the ambient and interactive events. On launch, Hooker says "I can't guess the public reaction," and adds: "We've made what we wanted to make." IGN's report that the map opens up early comes from a podcast relaying the magazine; we did not find it in the feature text, so it sits under Not confirmed.

Rockstar dates Justice's Original Score: December 11
Rockstar announced Grand Theft Auto VI: Original Score by Justice on its Newswire today. It comes out on December 11 on streaming services, as a double CD and as a triple vinyl LP, with a limited crystal clear edition alongside standard black. It has 30 tracks plus "a number of digital bonus tracks included across all formats" (Rockstar's music page), which together run about three hours, according to Rockstar's announcement as IGN quotes it. A new piece, "Pusher" with Gesaffelstein, is out now; it joins "Flower in a Hurricane" as the second score single on Rockstar's music page.
That settles the Apple Music New Zealand listing we put under Not confirmed yesterday. The date was right. Rockstar gave no total track count, so the listing's 50 may include the bonus tracks. The Original Score is separate from Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album, the 34-track record of songs that arrives with the game on November 19. Full details on our new Original Score page.

New GTA 6 footage in South Park
South Park's October 28 episode, "Beef Battle," shows a short GTA 6 clip in which Jason throws something at a dog's owner, the man drops the dog mess he has just picked up, and Jason grabs it and attacks him with it (Polygon, The Independent). It is real game footage: Rockstar is thanked in the episode's end credits (The Independent), and Polygon says the credits confirm Rockstar provided it. It is a gag, not a gameplay reveal, but it matches what Edge describes: small systems that let ordinary objects become weapons.

What it means for players
Our take: the Edge feature changes how we would play the first week. GTA 6 asks for patience in a way GTA 5 never did. With longer days, narrower roads, fuel to watch and a police report that follows your clothes and your partner, the fastest path is no longer to grab the nearest car and floor it. Our practical advice: learn the bus and train lines and the Scooter Bros app early, carry a change of clothes in your trunk, and keep a getaway car parked near any store you plan to rob, as Edge suggests. The weather is the most interesting change for drivers and pilots; storms that damage aircraft make checking the sky worth a habit. All of this comes from a guided demo of a build, not from our own play, so treat the details as Rockstar's description until launch. The score news is simpler: if you want Justice's music outside the game, it lands three weeks after you start playing.
