GTA 6 News Today (November 3, 2026): Preload Moves Up

The short answer

Rockstar moves the GTA 6 preload up to November 10, confirms a 212 GB download and a midnight local time launch on November 19 in every region.

Rockstar moved the GTA 6 preload two days earlier on November 3: it now opens on Tuesday, November 10, at midnight local time on PS5 and at 12 AM GMT on Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar also confirmed that the preload needs up to 212 GB and that the game unlocks at midnight local time on November 19 in every region, on both consoles. The release date and prices did not change: GTA 6 launches November 19, 2026, at $79.99 and $99.99 in the US.

Preload on November 10, two days early

Rockstar announced it in a Newswire post and two Rockstar Support pages, both marked "Last Updated: November 3, 2026". On PS5, "digital pre-load begins at midnight local time in your respective time zone on November 10, 2026." On Xbox Series X|S, it "begins globally at 12 a.m. GMT on November 10, 2026", which is 7 PM Eastern and 4 PM Pacific on Monday, November 9 (IGN, Kotaku, Eurogamer). The old date was local midnight on November 12, which Rockstar had listed since the summer.

The Xbox start is one moment worldwide, so it works out differently by region. Our arithmetic from 12 AM GMT:

Where you are PS5 preload opens Xbox preload opens
US Eastern 12 AM, November 10 7 PM, November 9
US Pacific Midnight local time, November 10 (see below) 4 PM, November 9
UK 12 AM, November 10 12 AM, November 10
Central Europe 12 AM, November 10 1 AM, November 10
Japan 12 AM, November 10 9 AM, November 10
Sydney 12 AM, November 10 11 AM, November 10

Rockstar's words for PS5 are "midnight local time in your respective time zone". IGN's own list gives Los Angeles 9 PM PST on November 9 for PS5, the same moment as midnight Eastern, so US West Coast players may get it three hours earlier than the table says; Rockstar's page does not settle that. Rockstar says the PS5 needs auto-downloads on and the console on or in Rest Mode, and the Xbox needs automatic updates on and the console on or in Sleep mode.

Boxed copies, which hold a download code and no disc, "should" reach retailers from November 12, Rockstar's Newswire post says (quoted by IGN), so boxed buyers start two days after digital buyers at the earliest. Rockstar's older platforms page still carries the November 12 date in one paragraph, but its own pre-load answer, the new FAQ and the PlayStation Blog all say November 10.

212 GB, and a midnight launch everywhere

Rockstar's FAQ says the preload "will require up to 212 GB of available space depending on your device". The PlayStation Blog tells PS5 owners to clear "a minimum of 212GB". That settles the 210 GB figure we listed under Not confirmed since October 27, which came from a single X account via Push Square. It was 2 GB short.

Rockstar's regional times page also settles the unlock hour, which we had only from the store listings: GTA 6 "will release midnight local time on November 19, 2026, in all regions for both PlayStation 5 and XBOX Series X|S." New Zealand plays first, at 11:00 UTC on November 18, and the US East Coast about 18 hours later, at midnight Eastern (9 PM Pacific on November 18).

What 212 GB means on each console, as our own arithmetic against the usable space IGN and Digital Trends report:

Console Usable storage Share 212 GB takes
Xbox Series S About 364 GB About 58%
PS5, 825 GB About 667 GB About 32%
Xbox Series X About 802 GB About 26%
PS5, 1 TB About 842 GB About 25%

At a steady 100 Mbps, 212 GB takes about 4 hours 43 minutes; at 25 Mbps, almost 19 hours. Every speed is on our download time page.

A free printable map, and a $0.99 printed one

GTA 6's box has no paper map. Instead, Rockstar says that on November 19 it will add a printable "cover art poster and map of Leonida as a free digital download" to its site, and that "a double-sided physical version of this poster will also be made available shortly after launch from the Rockstar Store", for $0.99 on its own or as a free gift with any Rockstar Store purchase (quoted by IGN and Push Square). Rockstar gives no ship date for the printed version.

What it means for players

Our take: this is the most useful announcement for players since the release date itself, because it answers the three questions we kept marking as open: when the download starts, how big it is, and when you can play. The size is the part to act on. At 212 GB, a Series S owner gives up well over half the console, and a launch PS5 about a third. We would still clear about 250 GB rather than exactly 212: Rockstar says "up to", a day-one patch is likely for a game this size though none is announced, and Red Dead Redemption 2 needed 50 GB of extra working space during its install (Polygon). The two extra days help slow connections most, so start on November 10 rather than waiting. Xbox owners in the Americas start on the evening of November 9, hours before PS5 owners there. Read moving a preload earlier, 16 days out, as one more sign the date is safe. Our preload page and release time page now carry the confirmed times.

Not confirmed

  • A day-one patch. Rockstar has not mentioned one, or whether it would come on top of the 212 GB.
  • Review copies and a November 18 embargo. Still only an insider and Insider Gaming.
  • Travis Scott x Nike Air Force 1 shoes for November 19. Still from a sneaker leaker; Nike, Rockstar and Scott have announced nothing.
  • The map opening up early. IGN's report comes from a podcast relaying Edge, and the published feature does not say it.
  • The PC window and who plays Jason and Lucia. Rockstar has announced neither.
