Visit a zoo. IGN's preview says you can study the animals there, and each new one you find goes on a checklist.

What we know
GTA 6 has at least one zoo. Rockstar listed zoos among its side activities in Game Informer's cover story (IGN, VICE), and IGN says the cover story confirmed "the game will actually feature at least one zoo for you to visit". IGN's preview from Rockstar North explains what you do there: "When at the zoo, or out in the wild, you can study animals, and each new one you find will be checked off a list. This system is derived from Red Dead Redemption 2."
Rockstar has not shown the zoo or said where it is.
Why the zoo matters
The checklist is big. Rockstar promises more than 170 species, and Game Informer says certain animals can be tracked and are sorted into Rare, Discoverable and Legendary tiers, with the rarer ones kept secret. A zoo puts many species in one safe place, which makes it the fastest way to start that list.
| Question | What we know |
|---|---|
| Is there a zoo? | Yes, at least one (IGN, from Game Informer) |
| What you do there | Study animals; each new one is checked off a list (IGN preview) |
| Do zoo animals count for the checklist? | IGN's wording says yes: "at the zoo, or out in the wild" |
| A SeaWorld-style park? | Probably not; Rockstar's Paul MacPherson suggested not every big Florida attraction made it in (IGN) |
| A gator park? | Kotaku reads one in Rockstar's marketing as Gatorland-inspired |
Our take: make the zoo one of your first stops once you can travel freely. Studying a cougar or an alligator behind glass is a lot safer than finding one in Mount Kalaga or Grassrivers, and IGN's wording suggests zoo visits count the same as sightings in the wild. Don't expect the zoo to hold everything, though: Rockstar is keeping its Rare and Legendary animals secret, and those almost certainly live out in Leonida, not in a pen. A zoo trip also sounds like a natural date for Jason and Lucia, since VICE reports some activities work as dates, but Rockstar hasn't named the zoo as one.
What to watch for at launch
- Where the zoo is, and whether there is more than one.
- Which species it holds, and whether marine animals have an aquarium.
- Whether zoo studies count toward the full animal checklist.
