The chart debut

Billboard reports that the song debuted at No. 10 on its Hot Latin Songs chart, on 2 million US streams in its first tracking week, per Luminate data. It is Rauw Alejandro's 17th top 10 on that chart and his first since "Khe?", his collaboration with Romeo Santos. Billboard counts it as only his third solo top 10 there.

Latin music in Rockstar's Florida

GTA 6 is set in Rockstar's version of Florida, and its main city is modeled on Miami. Spanish-language music was already part of the Extended Look, where Chimbala and Omega's dembow track "Se Me Nota (Agarrame)" played as Jason drove a VIP from an airport runway. A Latin star on the album makes that two for two: Rockstar's GTA 6 music so far treats Latin music as part of the city, not as a novelty.

Our take: this single and "Se Me Nota" are the best evidence that GTA 6 will have a strong Spanish-language side to its music, and we would expect a Latin station. Rockstar has since confirmed one, Cocoteo FM, but has not said whether "Macacoa 2000" plays on it. The chart debut also matters for the album itself: a top 10 on Billboard's Latin chart within weeks shows Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album being treated as a real release, not a souvenir.
