"Hot Together" by The Pointer Sisters is the song behind GTA 6 Trailer 2. It runs through the whole trailer, and it is the only song Rockstar credits in the video's description; some sites list others they heard, which Rockstar has not credited.

The song

"Hot Together" is the title track of the Pointer Sisters' 1986 album, produced by Richard Perry for RCA (Wikipedia). The album marked a commercial downturn for the group, and its lead single was a different song, "Goldmine", which only reached No. 33 on the Hot 100. The title track turned out to be the better known one: it was used in the 1987 films Spaceballs and Stakeout and in ads for that year's NBA playoffs (Wikipedia).

The trailer itself is built around Jason and Lucia as a couple. A song called "Hot Together", sung by a group of sisters, is about as direct a statement of that theme as Rockstar has made.

The streaming spike

TechRadar reported that Spotify streams of the song rose about 182,000% in the two hours after the trailer went up, compared with the same two hours a week earlier. Spotify's Sulinna Ong said GTA "cuts through popular culture like almost nothing else". Trailer 1's Tom Petty song had a 37,000% jump; this one went far higher, far faster.

Our take: the two trailer songs share a recipe. Both are 1980s album tracks by acts everyone knows, both are about love, and both look picked for mood over fame. That tells us Rockstar's music team is curating for the couple's story first, so expect the in-game radio to mix deep cuts with hits rather than lean on greatest-hits lists. Rockstar has not said whether "Hot Together" plays in the game itself. Until launch it is a trailer song, and we will update this page if it turns up on a station.
