The GTA 6 news today is a number: the analytics firm Sensor Tower estimates that GTA 6 had 6.08 million digital pre-orders by October 13, worth about $594 million, with 74% of them on PlayStation. Rockstar and Take-Two have not confirmed any pre-order figure, so treat it as an outside estimate. Nothing changed on dates or prices: GTA 6 still launches November 19, 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, with preloading from November 12.

Sensor Tower's GTA 6 pre-order estimate

Sensor Tower runs a GTA 6 sales tracker that it updates weekly, and GamesIndustry.biz reported its latest read on Tuesday. As of October 13, the firm estimates 6.08 million pre-orders and about $594 million in revenue, split 74% PlayStation and 26% Xbox, and it says the "vast majority" were for the $99.99 Ultimate Edition. TweakTown reports the same October 13 read: just over 6 million pre-orders and about $594 million.

Sensor Tower also lined GTA 6 up against the biggest launches of recent years: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (2022), Diablo 4, Hogwarts Legacy and Marvel's Spider-Man 2. At the same distance from launch, GTA 6 is 148% ahead of Modern Warfare 2, which was itself more than double Diablo 4 at 45 days out.

Two limits matter. The tracker counts digital pre-orders on PlayStation and Xbox only, so boxed copies from shops are missing. And GamesIndustry.biz says the comparison with other games covers US digital pre-orders.

How the estimate has grown

Our own tally of what Sensor Tower has published since pre-orders opened on June 25.

When Pre-orders Revenue PlayStation / Xbox Where it was reported
Through July 20 About 4.08 million (3.15 million PS, 0.93 million Xbox) $395 million by its August 6 post About 77% / 23% (our arithmetic) Sensor Tower's blog
Mid-August 4.3 million, 89% of them Ultimate Not given 77% / 23% GamesIndustry.biz, August 13
October 13 6.08 million About $594 million 74% / 26% GamesIndustry.biz; TweakTown

Two things stand out. Divide $594 million by 6.08 million and you get about $98 a copy, close to the $99.99 Ultimate price, which fits Sensor Tower's finding that nearly everyone picked Ultimate. And Xbox's share has crept up from 23% to 26%. In August, Sensor Tower's Karl Kontus told GamesIndustry.biz he had "never seen a 90% premium share before", expected late buyers to split "much closer to 50/50", and guessed final pre-orders "might land more in the 25 million ballpark". For scale, he pointed to Cyberpunk 2077's 8 million pre-orders at launch.

Take-Two still gives no units. Strauss Zelnick told analysts in August: "we haven't sold one unit yet. You can cancel a preorder."

What it means for players

Our take: the estimate tells you about demand, not about your copy. Six million digital pre-orders a month out, mostly at $99.99, is a strong sign the launch stays on November 19, because Take-Two would not risk refunds on that scale lightly. Read the numbers as a floor with a margin of error: boxed copies are missing, and these are Sensor Tower's estimates, not figures from Sony or Microsoft. Our advice has not changed. A digital pre-order is only worth it if you want the November 12 preload and to play at unlock; otherwise a digital copy cannot sell out, and you can decide on the edition after a few reviews. The first real sales number will come from Take-Two after launch, not from its November 9 call, which covers the quarter to September 30.

Not confirmed

  • A newer weekly figure. TweakTown and Insider Gaming say Sensor Tower's tracker now shows 6.45 million pre-orders and $630 million (4.8 million and $468 million on PlayStation, 1.66 million and $162 million on Xbox). The tracker's numbers don't load for us and no major outlet we could read carries them yet, so we are holding the October 13 figure.
  • The Miami-Dade vote. County commissioners meet today, October 20, where the delayed decision on a bigger Rockstar deal for the airport, port and transit could come back (Fortune, The Miamian). No outcome has been reported yet.
  • Downtown Miami banners. Fortune says the City of Miami approved temporary GTA VI banners worth up to $1.2 million. Miami Today reported a first-reading approval on September 10, with a $208,000 fee for each large banner and a second vote still to come; we have not found that final vote reported.
  • The PC window and who plays Jason and Lucia. Rockstar has announced neither.
