What Rockstar says

Sara's Unisex Salon is one of the five shops "only open for business with the Ultimate Edition". The PlayStation Store copy promises "signature salon styles for both Jason and Lucia, including facial hair for Jason and makeup and nails for Lucia". Rockstar's screenshot "Sara's Unisex Salon 01" shows the shop, and Rockstar Support lists it in the Ultimate Edition Upgrade, which Standard owners can buy later. Rockstar has not said where in Leonida it is; our map pin is a placeholder.

How hair works in GTA 6

Sara's is a premium salon in a game where hair has real uses. IGN's preview, from watching Rob Nelson play, gives the rules so far:

• You can shorten or shave hair and facial hair at your safehouse, but new styles need a salon or barber.
• Hair salons exist across the map for everyone, and each has its own signature styles.
• Visiting salons together is one of the ways Jason and Lucia's relationship grows.
• If police have your description, changing your hair removes the "appearance" icon under your wanted level, though they still know your clothes.

The pre-order Vintage Vice City Pack adds 1980s hairstyles of its own: "the cut and coif of the decade of decadence" for Jason and curls for Lucia (Xbox Store).

Our take: a haircut in GTA 6 is a getaway tool as much as a look. After a job where police got a description, a salon visit plus a full change of clothes should clear most of what they know about you, going by IGN's account of the wanted system. That works at any salon, so Standard players lose nothing important here. Sara's earns its place for makeup, nails and its signature styles; if you care about Lucia's look in particular, it is the Ultimate Edition shop with the most to offer. DualShockers' worry that locked shops break the world's logic is fair, but a salon is the easiest one to live without.

What to watch for at launch

• Whether Sara's has styles no other salon offers, or just more of them.
• Whether makeup and nails exist anywhere for Standard Edition players.
• How quickly a salon visit clears a police description in practice.
