A gun store advertised on TV in Trailer 2. Ammu-Nation is the series' long-running gun store chain, and Rockstar's Ultimate Edition copy confirms Ammu-Nation stores sell weapons as the story goes on.
What Rockstar has shown
Ammu-Nation, the gun store chain that has run through the GTA series, is back. The first sign was a TV ad in Trailer 2 (2:14) for "Phil's Ammu-Nation", fronted by a man with a mullet at a counter full of guns; Dexerto noticed a PS5 next to the TV playing it. The stronger confirmation came later in words. Rockstar's press release for the Ultimate Edition, as TheSixthAxis printed it, says the Hawk & Little Morgan revolvers are "found at Ammu-Nation stores as Jason and Lucia's story progresses". So Ammu-Nation stores exist in Leonida, and they stock new guns over time.
Why "Phil's" stands out
Ammu-Nation is usually a chain with no owner's name on the sign, Screen Rant points out, which is why "Phil's" caught fans' eyes. In GTA Vice City, Tommy could buy weapons at Phil's Place, Phil Cassidy's spot, which he didn't own but could shop at (GTABase). Rockstar has not said whether GTA 6's Phil is the same character. The full story of that nod is on our easter egg page.
Where guns come from in GTA 6
| Source of weapons | What we know |
|---|---|
| Ammu-Nation stores | Confirmed by Rockstar's Ultimate Edition copy; stock grows as the story goes on |
| Garages | Every personal garage has a weapon locker for your loadout (press release) |
| Car trunks | You can keep weapons in your personal vehicle's trunk (IGN preview) |
| Gun training facility | IGN spotted what looks like one in the Extended Look |
| Named weapons so far | IGN identified the Moreland 850 shotgun and Duke 556 rifle |
Our take: plan on Ammu-Nation being your main gun shop from early in the game, with better stock unlocking chapter by chapter, which matches how Rockstar describes the Ultimate Edition revolvers turning up. If you own the Ultimate Edition, check the counter after each chapter for the Hawk & Little Morgan. Whether Phil's is a single named store or every Ammu-Nation in Leonida carries his name is the question we most want answered; a franchise owner with his own TV ads would be a very GTA joke.
What to watch for at launch
- Whether "Phil's Ammu-Nation" is one store or the chain's name in Leonida.
- Whether the man in the ad appears in person.
- What the gun training facility offers, and whether it links to Ammu-Nation.
