GTA 6 property

Jason's place

Confirmed

Brian Heder lets Jason live rent-free in one of his properties in exchange for help with local shakedowns, Rockstar says. In previews, Jason and Lucia share a safehouse and keep cars there.

What Rockstar says

Jason's home is borrowed. Rockstar's bio for Brian Heder says Brian lets Jason live rent-free at one of his properties, "so long as he helps with local shakedowns, and stops by for Lori's sangria once in a while". Jason's own bio puts him in the Keys working for local drug runners, so the home and the job come from the same circle of people.

How safehouses work in GTA 6

IGN watched Rob Nelson play at Rockstar North and came back with the most detail so far:

  • Jason and Lucia can live in the same safehouse, each on their own daily schedule.
  • Safehouses are closer to Red Dead Redemption 2's camps than to old GTA houses: other people can drop in and out, and one home IGN saw belonged to someone else.
  • You can shorten or shave hair and facial hair at home; new styles still need a salon.
  • Each character can own several personal vehicles and keep them at the safehouse. Trunks work, and you can keep a change of clothes and weapons in them.
  • If you stay out late, your partner may text asking you to lock up, and ignoring those texts can hurt the relationship.

The Extended Look adds small touches: a fridge whose food carries icons for refilling health and other meters, a Fleeca bank magnet, and the GTA Vice City cover art in a frame by Lucia's TV (IGN). Ultimate Edition owners also get Jason's safehouse vehicles, an Army-green Dinka Enduro motorcycle or a Crest kayak (PlayStation Store).

Compared with earlier games

Game How homes worked
GTA Vice City (2002) Tommy could buy safehouses and income-making businesses; buying them all was part of 100% (GTABase)
Red Dead Redemption 2 (2018) A shared gang camp that moved with the story (IGN's comparison)
GTA 6 Shared safehouses like Red Dead's camps; buying homes at will looks unlikely, per TGG's preview (via GTABase)

Our take: think of the safehouse as a base and a wardrobe, not a trophy. The most useful habit, on IGN's description of the wanted system, is to keep a full spare outfit and a weapon in your car's trunk, because police can track you by your clothes and a hat alone won't fool them. Don't plan your money around buying homes: the only owned property Rockstar sells so far is garages, and TGG's report that fugitives can't buy houses fits everything else we know. Expect the story to move Jason and Lucia rather than a property ladder.

What to watch for at launch

  • Where Jason's place is, and whether Lucia moves in during the story.
  • Who else drops by, and whether visitors give missions.
  • Whether any home can be bought later in the story (our rumor check).
