But I Think It's a Dream

"But I Think It's a Dream" by Captain and Tennille plays as Jason and Lucia head to a bar to meet Brian and Lori Heder in An Extended Look. By Game Rant's timestamps it starts at 9:49 and runs for about 49 seconds.

The song

This is a deep cut, not a hit. It is an album track from Keeping Our Love Warm, the duo's sixth studio album, released in October 1980 on Casablanca, and Toni Tennille wrote it (Wikipedia). Wikipedia describes the album as the duo's last major release.

The biggest winner of the Extended Look

Spotify data shared with EDM.com showed global streams of the song up 130,730% after the video, with playlist additions up 885,400%. That was the biggest jump of the three songs EDM.com reported on, and the site guessed most listeners had never heard it before.

Why it fits

The title does a lot of work. Rockstar has described Jason and Lucia's goal as a modest version of the American dream (see our October 6 news), and here they are driving to meet Brian, an old smuggler who has made that life work for himself in the Keys, more or less. A soft, slightly sad song about something feeling too good to be real is a neat comment on the couple's plans.

Our take: this is the clearest proof that Rockstar's music team digs for forgotten tracks, not just hits. If one deep cut can jump that far, the full radio will introduce a lot of people to music they never knew existed, which in our view has always been part of GTA's appeal. Rockstar has not said where the song plays in the game. We will update this page after launch.
