Skrilla

"Skrilla" by Kodak Black plays in a hallway in An Extended Look, after Jason and Lucia step out of a lift and Jason stops to pet a dog. By Game Rant's timestamps it runs for about 49 seconds (1:45 to 2:34), the third rap track in a row in the opening scene.

The artist

Kodak Black was born and raised in Pompano Beach, in South Florida, where he grew up in the Golden Acres housing project, and he has stayed one of the best-known rappers from the region (Revolt, Wikipedia). His hits include "Tunnel Vision" and "Zeze", both Billboard Hot 100 entries (Billboard). We could not confirm the original release date of "Skrilla" from a reliable source, so we leave it out here.

Why it fits

Rockstar's Leonida is its version of Florida, and Vice City is its Miami. Kodak Black is one of two Florida acts in the Extended Look, and the one from the region Vice City is modeled on. The other, the Bellamy Brothers, comes from Pasco County, north of Tampa. The scene is small and human, a man stopping to fuss over a dog in a grim building, and the music keeps it grounded in a specific place rather than a generic "crime game" mood.

Our take: Rockstar's research trips through South Florida, which it described to LOVE Magazine (see our October 6 news), may show up in choices like this, though Rockstar hasn't said so. A Florida rapper over Florida footage is the kind of detail locals notice first. "Skrilla" plays in the building's hallway rather than on a car radio, so we do not know yet whether it is on a station. We will check after launch and add the station or location here.
