"Inner Light" by Elderbrook and Bob Moses is the song that closes An Extended Look. It starts at 25:44, by Game Rant's timestamps, and plays over the final shots and the closing monologue to the end of the video.
The song
Elderbrook and the electronic duo Bob Moses released "Inner Light" in 2021. They wrote it apart during the pandemic, trading the instrumental and vocal ideas remotely, and Elderbrook told Newsweek he would not have come up with the chorus if they had been in the same room. He describes it as a song "about being on the precipice of letting go or something big happening". The band's Jimmy Vallance said they were emailed about the GTA placement, forgot about it, and felt like "some of the last people to even know".
After the video, Spotify data shared with EDM.com showed global streams up 1,070% and playlist additions up 4,155%. VICE's list of the Extended Look's songs leaves this one out; IGN and Game Rant both include it.
Why it ends the video
A melancholy house track with a triumphant vocal is an unusual way to close a crime game reveal. It does not sell action. It sells a feeling: two people at the edge of something big, which is exactly where the video leaves Jason and Lucia. Elderbrook's own summary of the lyric could be the trailer's.
Our take: ending on mood instead of a famous hit was a confident choice, and it worked, judging by the streaming numbers. It tells us Rockstar wants GTA 6 remembered for atmosphere as much as chaos, the way we remember Red Dead Redemption 2. As the band told Newsweek, they did not write it for GTA, which makes the fit more impressive. Whether the song plays anywhere in the game itself is not confirmed, and we will add it here after launch.
